Reaching out beyond Messiah Lutheran Church

Guinea, West Aftrica

Andrea Herman serves the Lord and the LCMS as an evangelistic trainer to womein in Guinea. She identifies women, among the Maninka people group, who the Spirit has moved to be open to learning about God's Word and discipling them to the point where they can begin to teach others. Many of the Maninka people practice Folk Islam, a religion combining traditional Islam and native animistic practices involving witchcraft. Before she arrived in Guinea, Andrea attened LCMS World Mission training in the summer of 2006. She alson received training in linguistics, the Frech language, and chronological Bible story teaching.

Andrea was born in Coon Rapids, MN. Her home congregation is Family of Christ Lutheran Church. She earned a bachelor's degree in Communications from Winona State University, Winona, MN. Andrea is currently working toward a master's degree in Christian outreach from Concordia University, St. Paul, MN.

Hurricane Ike Response:

Donations Desperately Needed

Two weeks following Hurricane Ike, some LCMS members in Galveston and Beaumont, Texas, have yet to return home and assess damages. Needs are great and 20 LCMS congregations were seriously affected.

Your continued financial gifts to LCMS World Relief and Human Care are vital for the church’s response to the needs of our members and their communities affected by Hurricane Ike. With your help, we are on our way to raising $550,000 to respond to the following needs:

$25,000 - 20 generators, plus shipping

$100,000 - salary and benefits coverage for affected church workers

$100,000 - to assist Lutheran Disaster Response

$250,000 - meeting immediate needs in the Texas District LCMS

$75,000 - non-perishable and staple food items

Please make a financial gift today! A basket has been place on the table at the back of Church.

Ablaze

Ablaze!® began as a vision of LCMS World Mission to involve every member of the LCMS, its partner church bodies, and partner mission agencies in one focused and concentrated effort to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with those who do not yet know Him. By joining together in this effort, not only would those who hear and receive the message of salvation in Christ be transformed by it and brought into the body of Christ, but our own church bodies, mission organizations and congregations would be strengthened as members grow in discipleship through mission involvement. Additionally, all our Lutheran resources would be strategically coordinated, so that more can be accomplished in mission to the glory and honor of our one, true God. It was the desire of LCMS World Mission to give this vision away—to ignite a spark that would become a mission movement of individuals, groups, congregations, etc., all committed to the goal of reaching 100 million unreached and uncommitted people with the Gospel by 2017, which is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
